Thematic: Ilocos Sur National High School 124th Foundation Anniversary
The 124th Foundation Day of Ilocos Norte National High School (ISNHS) was a breathtaking display of color, rhythm, and school spirit. As I stood on the grounds of the Senior High School ABM-STEM building, the atmosphere was electric with the "Tigery" pride that has defined this institution since 1902. This year’s thematic assessment allowed us to move beyond the classroom and witness the unity of the student body through massive, choreographed field demonstrations. The sheer scale of the event served as a powerful reminder of our school's enduring legacy as a "Cradle of Leaders" in the North.
The visual highlight of the celebration was undoubtedly the field performances, where students utilized intricate props to tell a story of growth and resilience. In one segment, a sea of students donned in green skirts and floral leis transformed the concrete quadrangle into a tropical garden, their movements perfectly synchronized with the beat of the drums. Another performance featured giant, multi-colored flower fans that, when viewed from a distance, created a shifting kaleidoscope of red, yellow, and pink. These images capture more than just a dance; they represent weeks of discipline, cooperation, and the creative talent that ISNHS nurtures in every student.
Reflecting on these moments for my photoblog, I realized that the 124th Foundation Day is a bridge between our storied past and our bright future. Seeing my fellow students from different strands and grade levels come together reminds me that while our school is over a century old, its spirit remains youthful and vibrant. This assessment has taught me to appreciate the "behind-the-scenes" effort that goes into maintaining our traditions. As I share these photos, I hope to convey the deep sense of belonging and excellence that comes with being a true Isnhisian.
4th Quarter
The fourth quarter of the academic year is often a whirlwind of mixed emotions, acting as both a finish line and a gateway to the next chapter. This period is characterized by an intense academic workload, featuring final projects, major exams, and the pressure to pull up grades. Personally, I found this quarter to be a test of my endurance. While the excitement for the upcoming break was a constant distraction, it also served as a motivator to complete my requirements with excellence so I could truly enjoy the time off without any lingering academic "debt."
A significant part of my growth this quarter involved mastering the art of prioritization. With so many deadlines converging at once, I had to move beyond simple time management and start practicing "energy management." I learned that tackling the most complex tasks early in the day—when my focus was sharpest—prevented the late-night burnout that usually occurs during finals week. This shift in mindset helped me see my assignments not just as hurdles to clear, but as opportunities to demonstrate how much I’ve actually learned since the beginning of the year.
Looking back, the most rewarding aspect of these final months wasn't just the grades, but the resilience I built. There were moments of genuine stress, yet navigating those high-pressure situations gave me a clearer sense of my own capabilities. As I prepare to post this on my blog and transition into the next stage, I realize that the 4th quarter isn't just about finishing a syllabus; it’s about synthesizing a year's worth of knowledge and preparation for the challenges that lie ahead.
National Women's Month
National Women’s Month is a month-long celebration to recognize and honor the contributions of women throughout history and in contemporary society. In the Philippines, the celebration is a significant event, aligning with the International Women’s Day observed globally every March 8. The month is dedicated to highlighting women’s achievements, discussing ongoing issues related to gender equality, and promoting policies and initiatives that empower women. Various government agencies, non-government organizations, educational institutions, and private sectors organize events, workshops, and campaigns to foster awareness and create a more inclusive environment for women in all aspects of life.
One of the key themes often emphasizes the role of women as catalysts for change and agents of development. Discussions during this month frequently revolve around addressing issues such as gender-based violence, discrimination in the workplace, and equal representation in leadership roles. Workshops and seminars are conducted to educate people on women’s rights and to provide a platform for women to share their experiences and advocate for their rights. The goal is to inspire and empower the next generation of women to reach their full potential, while also acknowledging the long journey toward achieving true gender equality.
Furthermore, National Women's Month serves as a crucial reminder to continuously strive for a more equitable and just society. By honoring the achievements of women and addressing the challenges they still face, this celebration contributes to a broader effort of creating an environment where every woman is valued and empowered to contribute significantly to her community and the nation as a whole. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the progress made, identify areas where improvement is still needed, and recommit to the collective goal of advancing gender equality for all. This celebration is not just for women; it is for everyone, as gender equality benefits entire communities and nations.

My Dream, My Future
The path to the future is often paved with the ambitions we hold dear as children. For me, that path is clearly defined by a single, unwavering goal: to become a doctor. This dream isn't just about a prestigious title or a stable career; it is born from a deep-seated desire to understand the complexities of the human body and to provide comfort to those in their most vulnerable moments. Seeing the impact that healthcare professionals have on families and communities has solidified my resolve to join their ranks.
Achieving this future requires more than just a wish; it demands rigorous dedication and a commitment to lifelong learning. The journey through medical school and residency is notoriously challenging, involving years of intense study in biology, chemistry, and clinical practice. However, I view these challenges as necessary stepping stones. To prepare, I am focusing on building a strong foundation in my current sciences and developing the empathy and patience required to care for patients from all walks of life.
Ultimately, my dream is to bridge the gap between medical science and human compassion. Whether I end up in a busy city hospital or a small rural clinic, my goal remains the same: to save lives and improve the quality of living for my future patients. I believe that with hard work and a clear vision, the transition from "my dream" to "my reality" is not just possible, but inevitable.
Happy Valentine's Day
Valentine's Day, often dismissed as a commercial construct, is actually deeply rooted in history, and its evolution into a celebration of all forms of love is a testament to its enduring power. From its origins as a day to honor Saint Valentine to its modern-day iteration, Valentine’s Day has consistently been a time to acknowledge and express love.
The historical context is important to understand the day's true meaning. While the exact details are a bit murky, Saint Valentine was a Roman priest who was martyred around 270 AD. It is believed that he secretly performed marriages for Roman soldiers, defying the Emperor’s orders. This association with romantic love and marriage is likely what led to the day being associated with the celebration of all forms of love.
This evolution has been mirrored in the modern era. Today, Valentine's Day is no longer just for romantic partners. It’s also a time to celebrate friendships, familial love, and even self-love. Galentine's Day, a relatively recent phenomenon, has become a popular way to celebrate friendships. It’s a wonderful example of how the holiday has expanded to include different types of connections.
The universal appeal of Valentine's Day lies in its focus on connection. The simple acts of giving gifts, writing cards, or simply spending time with loved ones are all ways to strengthen the bonds that connect us. It's a reminder that love, in all its forms, is a force that can bring people together and enrich our lives.
So, whether you're celebrating with a partner, friends, or family, remember that Valentine's Day is about more than just a romantic ideal. It's about acknowledging and cherishing the love that exists in our lives. It's a day to celebrate the connections that make our lives meaningful.
"Intayon, Ilocos Sur Festival!"
The Ilocos Sur Festival is one of the province’s most anticipated celebrations, bringing together culture, heritage, and community pride. Every year, locals and visitors gather to honor the vibrant traditions that have shaped Ilocos Sur—from its historic towns to its diverse cultural identity. The festival serves as a reminder of how deeply rooted Ilocano customs are, and how these continue to flourish in modern times.
While Vigan often takes the spotlight with its cobblestone streets and old-world charm, the festival highlights the richness of the entire province. From cultural dances and colorful parades to showcases of local delicacies, each activity celebrates the spirit of unity and resilience among Ilocanos. Even smaller towns contribute their own flair, emphasizing that the festival is a true “People’s Celebration,” as described in this year’s official announcement from the Suyo Municipal Government.
The celebration also inspires travelers to explore beyond the usual destinations. Beaches such as Pug-os in Cabugao and the lively local markets mentioned by Ilocano travel enthusiasts add depth to the experience. These places capture everyday Ilocano life—simple, welcoming, and full of flavor. Whether you're drawn to heritage sites, food trips, or community events, the festival offers something meaningful for everyone.
As Ilocos Sur continues to grow while preserving its traditions, the festival becomes more than just an annual event. It becomes a symbol of continuity—proof that cultural pride remains strong in every town and every Ilocano. Truly, Intayon Ilocos Sur! Let’s go and celebrate the stories, people, and culture that make this province one of a kind.

VIGAN CITY FIESTA
Every year, the people of Vigan celebrate their colorful Fiesta with great excitement. It is a time filled with joy, traditional contests, and fun activities for everyone. My friends and I decided to visit the city in the afternoon specifically to watch the famous street dancing competition, which is one of the biggest highlights of the event.
We were amazed by the dancers, who ranged from elementary students to high schoolers. Every group showed incredible talent and energy as they performed in the heat. We weren't just there as regular spectators; we went specifically to cheer for ISNHS. We wanted to make sure they felt our loud support while they danced through the busy streets.
Unfortunately, we were unable to watch their final showdown at the Longganisa Festival stage. Even though we missed that specific part, we were overjoyed when we heard the news. We are so proud of them because ISNHS performed perfectly and was declared the overall champion. All their hard work and practice definitely paid off.
The fun did not stop when the sun went down. That evening, there was a massive concert featuring the famous band Parokya ni Edgar, and the atmosphere was electric. The festivities continued until December 25th, which featured a grand parade through the city. It was a wonderful experience that showed the true spirit of our community.
